Pupils at Thoresby Primary School have proudly written, illustrated and published their own book, Rainbow of Emotions, following a six-week creative wellbeing project led by local illustrator and author Jodie Smith, founder of Happy Doodles. Using doodling as a simple way to explore feelings, the children created every word and image in the book, drawing on their own experiences and emotions.

The project, funded through Generation Hull and Arts Council England’s Fight for our Creative Futures programme, culminated in a special celebration at the school attended by pupils, families, staff and project partners. Alongside developing artistic skills, the programme encouraged children to understand and express their emotions in a supportive and creative environment.

Staff praised the project for helping pupils build confidence and emotional awareness, while showcasing their creativity. The finished book is a lasting achievement for the children and marks the beginning of an exciting initiative that could be expanded to other schools across the Trust and beyond.
